Myanmar Earthquake: म्यानमारमध्ये २८ मार्च २०२५ रोजी सकाळी ११:५० वाजता ७.७ तीव्रतेचा भूकंप आला, ज्यामुळे देशात मोठ्या प्रमाणावर हानी झाली आहे. भूकंपाचे केंद्र म्यानमारच्या मध्य भागात, मोन्यवा शहराच्या सुमारे ५० किमी पूर्वेला होते. भूकंपामुळे म्यांमारची राजधानी नेपीडॉमध्ये १,००० खाटांचे जनरल हॉस्पिटल ‘मास कॅज्युअल्टी एरिया’ घोषित करण्यात आले आहे, जिथे अनेक जखमींची उपचारासाठी गर्दी झाली आहे.
थायलंडच्या बँकॉकमध्ये देखील भूकंपाचे तीव्र झटके जाणवले. थायलंडची राजधानी बँकॉकमध्ये ३० मजली इमारत कोसळल्याने १० लोकांचा मृत्यू झाला आहे, आणि २,००० हून अधिक इमारतींना नुकसान झाले आहे. बांगलादेशमध्ये देखील भूकंपाचे झटके जाणवले, ज्यामुळे राजधानी ढाकामध्ये लोकांमध्ये भीतीचे वातावरण निर्माण झाले. चीनच्या युन्नान प्रांतातही भूकंपाचे परिणाम जाणवले आहेत.

भारताने ‘ऑपरेशन ब्रह्मा’ अंतर्गत भारतीय नौदलाचे INS सतपुड़ा आणि INS सावित्री हे जहाजे ४० टन मदत सामग्रीसह म्यानमारकडे रवाना केले आहेत. तसेच, ८० सदस्यीय NDRF बचाव पथक C-130 विमानाद्वारे नेपीदा येथे पोहोचले आहे. भारताच्या पंतप्रधानांनी म्यानमारच्या सैन्य सरकारच्या प्रमुख जनरल मिन आंग ह्लाइंग यांच्याशी संवाद साधून भारताच्या मदतीची हमी दिली आहे.
भारताप्रमाणारेच इतर देशांनीही म्यानमारला तात्काळ मदत पाठविली आहे. युरोपियन युनियन (EU) ने २.७ दशलक्ष डॉलर्स (२३ कोटी रुपये) ची तात्काळ मदत म्यानमारला पाठविली आहे. रशियाने १२० बचावकर्मचारी आणि आवश्यक सामग्रीसह दोन विमाने पाठविली आहेत, तर चीन, हॉंगकॉंग, सिंगापूर आणि मलेशियाने देखील बचाव पथके पाठविण्याची घोषणा केली आहे.

A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.7 struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025, at 11:50 AM, causing widespread destruction across the country. The epicenter was located in central Myanmar, approximately 50 km east of Monywa city. Due to the earthquake, the 1,000-bed General Hospital in Myanmar’s capital, Naypyidaw, has been declared a ‘mass casualty area,’ where a large number of injured people are receiving treatment. Strong tremors were also felt in Bangkok, Thailand. A 30-story building collapsed in Thailand’s capital, leading to 10 deaths and damage to over 2,000 buildings.
Casualties and Emergency Response
In Myanmar earthquake has claimed 1,644 lives, with over 3,408 people injured. In response, the Myanmar government has declared an emergency in six regions and appealed for international humanitarian aid. Thailand has also declared an emergency, temporarily halting all commercial activities.
International Aid for Myanmar
India has launched ‘Operation Brahma’, deploying Indian Navy ships INS Satpura and INS Savitri with 40 tons of relief materials to Myanmar. Additionally, an 80-member NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) rescue team has been airlifted to Naypyidaw via a C-130 aircraft. India’s Prime Minister has assured Myanmar’s military government leader, General Min Aung Hlaing, of India’s full support.
Several other nations have also rushed aid to Myanmar. The European Union (EU) has sent an immediate relief fund of $2.7 million (₹23 crore). Russia has deployed 120 rescue personnel along with essential supplies on two aircraft. Meanwhile, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia have announced plans to send rescue teams.
Current Situation in Myanmar
A state of emergency remains in place across six states in Myanmar. Rescue operations are ongoing, and international aid is arriving. On March 29, at 3:30 PM, another earthquake of magnitude 5.1 struck the region, further spreading panic among the population.
The devastating earthquake has caused massive loss of life and property across Myanmar and its neighboring countries. The international community has stepped up relief efforts in this difficult time. Tremors were also felt in Bangladesh, causing panic in the capital, Dhaka, and the Yunnan province of China also experienced the earthquake’s effects.
